Around in Circles Pillow // Retro Rubies QAL

Last week we talked about cutting into your fabric for the Retro Rubies, how is that coming along? Have you seen the Flickr Group lately? During the quilt along I wanted to take the time to make two additional projects from the Modern Patchwork Magazine which has a total of 34 wonderful projects!

One of the projects that I really loved when I first saw the magazine was the Around in Circles pillow by Heather Jones which is featured on the front cover. It looked like a real quick project which was perfect for my busy schedule.

Just as I expected the pillow only took me about an hour and half to make, and thats including the pebble quilting. I used two Tsuru prints with coordinating Kona Solids. Because, I was being a little lazy my pillow has different size circles than the original Around in Circles pillow. The magazine comes with templates for the circles you can trace on to cardboard or template plastic to cut out. I have an Olfa Circle Rotary Cutter I have been dying to use so I decided to put it to use for this project. The Olfa Circle Rotary Cutter was designed for cutting circles on fabric, paper, vinyl, film, leather, etc. It has a ratchet handle designed to reduce wrist fatigue, works for left or right handers, and it cuts circles from 1-1/2" to 8-3/4". At first I was a little confused on how it worked, but I watched this video by Fat Quarter Shop and it made much more sense!
