Block Lesson #6 // Skill Builder BOM

This post is part of a series of posts for the Skill Builder BOM (Block of the Month). To learn more about the block of the month or to see a list of all posts click here.

I am really excited about this month’s blocks, I absolutely love how both of them turned out and they may just be two of my favorite blocks yet! This month we will be perfecting two methods we have already learned Foundation Paper Piecing and HST piecing. Last week when I was working on the blocks, I had shared my progress on Facebook and had asked for suggestions on names. You all had so many awesome ideas, but I chose Broken Arrow and Shattered Chevrons!

There isn’t much to cover this month, since we have already discussed these two methods so let’s jump in and start making the blocks! Download Block Lesson #6 by clicking on the PDF button below. If you have any questions about the blocks, or see any errors, please stop by the Flickr group or email me.

    Hi Alyssa

Just wanted to double-check the measurements on broken arrow…
The way I read it, the paper pieced strips are trimmed to the the width of the paper, ie 1.5" – so finished size is 1" wide
The background strips is 0.75" – so finished width is 0.25"
    10 × 1″ + 4 × 0.25″ = 11" (11.5" with the two side S/A’s) finished
Usually our blocks finish at 12" square (12.5" with S/A’s)

Did you make the side borders wider to make up the difference?
or does the background connecting strips need to be 1" wide to finish at 0.5" (that’s what it looks like in the pictures)

(I am a quiet participant in the BOM, its my first quilt and I am not on flickr, hence the question here rather than in the flickr group)

    Thanks
    Marina
