Cross My Heart Mini Quilt

As you saw yesterday I will be teaching a few classes here locally one of those is the Cross Stitch Quilting Class. This weekend I made a class sample for the shop to display.

Cross My Heart Mini Quilt

cross-my-heart-web image image image image My daughter Gwenyth helped me pick out all of the fabrics and watched me in every step of the process. She will get to hang this cute quilt in her room soon.

Quilt Details

  • Quilt Size: 28"x 28"
  • Fabrics: I used various pinks, in fact each X block is a different print. The background is Orion Planet Buzz by Maude Ashbury. For the backing I used some of the pink prints from the front. For the binding I used Comma by Zen Chic.
  • Thread: It is a little hard to see in the photos, but I used a really fun Desert Dawn (#4648) variegated 50wt Aurifil thread.

Hi Alyssa, I love this little quilt! So lovely to be able to share this with your daughter – I’m sure she’ll have the quilt forever and remember how you made it together. Would you please share how you made the little customised label? I would really love to do this on my family’s quilts. Thanks very much! Michelle

I’ve been following you for a while, without commenting, but today I have a question. How did you quilt the circles on this beautiful quilt? Was it on a home machine? Did you use an attachment to get the perfect circles?

Thank You! I have been meaning to do a tutorial on this label. I use Pellon® Ez-Steam II and a piece of white Kona Cotton. I cut both down to 8.5×11, stick the Kona to the Pellon and then feed it into my printer. I design all the labels on my computer using Illustrator or Photoshop and then print directly onto the fabric. Then I cut the tag out, peel the paper off, and fuse it to the quilt. Fusing it to the quilt with the iron also heat sets the ink. Technically at this point the tag isn’t coming off, but I like to add decorative stitches.

Hey Debra! It’s actually not too hard at all. Use something round to trace your smallest circle onto the quilt with a water soluble pen. I used a Frixon pen and traced the circle using a roll of blue painters tape. Then from there I used a walking foot with a guide bar and set my guide bar for 1". I started in the center stitching over my traced line, then I lined the guide bar up with the circle I just stitched so I was now stitching exactly 1" out. I kept doing this over and over off the edge of the quilt.

The quilt turned out very cute. I’m sure it will be treasured. Also thought you might like to see a larger, alternative heart in cross-stitch.

That is so cute! I loved the cross stitch block when you had it on the Fox quilt, but the heart is adorable too! The background fabric is especially cool. I definitely need to try something with the cross stitch block soon.
