Classes, Lectures, and Trunk Shows

Looking through Pile O’ Fabric you will see a focus and love for helping the beginner to advanced quilter and general crafter establish a solid sewing foundation through step by step beginner tutorials, classes and patterns. Through my online and local classes, my hope is to inspire everyone (beginner and veteran alike) to continue learning, to step out of their comfort zones, to try new techniques, join new events, try new products, and fall more in love with quilting and sewing than they’ve ever been.

I am available to teach classes as well as present trunk shows and lectures at your local quilt shop or quilting guild. My classes and trunk shows are primarly focused on the exploration of quilting techniques. I have a great love and passion for modern quilting, but am firmly grounded by the solid methods and techniques of traditional quilters like Sharon Schamber.

Meet Alyssa of Pile O' Fabric

I am a graphic designer turned avid sewist. I write modern quilting tutorials and share techniques and inspiration on my blog, Pile O’ Fabric. My husband and I also own a sewing pattern publishing company called Aria Lane.

I have a passion for exploring different techniques and applying them to modern designs. I am thankful to have the opportunity to share these techniques, through my classes, with quilters around the world. I always encourages my students to challenge themselves to try new things and to approach quilting with a fearless attitude.

Trunk Shows

A trunk show is a really fun 1-2hr event that can be hosted at your shop or guild. Here is how a typical trunk show looks:

  • Personal Introduction (10 mins)

I start off by sharing a little background about myself and my passion for quilting techniques and the modern quilting movement.

  • Quilt Show & Tell (35 mins)

I bring along some of my favorite quilts. I share the story behind each quilt (the techniques used to make it).

  • Technique Demo (35 mins)

If time permits I love to give a demonstration of a technique, in past shows I have demonstrated the Cross Stitch Quilt block. I have found this really gets everyone excited about trying new things. If you plan on having me teach a class in the future this is a fun way to help promote the class.

  • Questions and Shopping (30 mins)

I bring quilting supplies, technique based supply/pattern kits, patterns and magazines along which I will have for sale. This is a great time for customers to shop and ask me questions.

Technique Based Classes

I love to teach classes focused on students learning a specific technique, like quilt-as-you-go, applique, domestic machine quilting, foundation piecing, curves piecing, and Piec-lique. You can get a good idea of the type of classes I teach by checking out my Class Catalog. I have a lot of ideas for classes and would love to work with you on scheduling ones which will suite your shop or guild perfectly!
