This is the first week of Fat Quarter Idol at Sew,Mama,Sew!. And this weeks theme is Sweet Child of Mine. Being a mother of two beautiful children, this was a super fun challenge for me. If I were to win the fabric bundle I can guarentee the fat quarter will go to great use!
First thing I did was look around my office for color inspiration. I have baby things everwhere so I knew I would find something. Since this was not Sweet "Baby" of mine, I wanted to stay clear of pastels. I wanted to choose a color collection that would be unisex, bright, and fun for a child. I spoted my son's boppy pillow which has a green, blue, red, and orange cover on it.
After I had those colors in mind I visited Design Seeds which is an absolute wonderful place to get inspired by color. I use this wonderful resource everytime I have a design project for work. This is called the shamrock palette, it has all the color familys I was looking for.
So now with that in mind I pulled my Kona Cotton Color Card, and started looking for colors. At this point I wasn't set for sure on any solid colors, I decided it was time to start searching the Sew,Mama,Sew! shop for my prints.
Since I had a color theme in mind, I searched the Sew,Mama,Sew! shop by fabric color. I think each week I will try to search for my fabrics a different way so I get better and better. I picked out about 28 different fabrics, opened the images up in Photoshop and put them all together in a collage. One by one I illiminated fabrics, till I had my final twelve.
Here were my final choices which can all be found at the Sew,Mama,Sew! shop.
You can see my final choices on my Pinterest Board for Sweet Child of Mine. I had a blast doing this and feel just a tad bit better at choosing fabric than I did last week. Can't wait for next weeks challenge!
