A Sew Sew Modern Finish!

Well I officially finished my items for the Sew Sew Modern swap! I have to say this could be by far one of the most fun projects I have done to date! I think I may be a tad bit addicted to dense machine quilting. I especially love quilting smaller things like this table runner and these placemats.
First I pieced about 4 or 5 of the hexagon flowers by hand, until my fibromyalgia started acting up and I came up with a extremely fun way to piece the hexagons by machine, which I will share about during Skill Builder BOM in March.
I took four of the flowers and made four 18" x 12" placemats. The quilting on the placemats was inspired by Jenny at Sew Kind of Wonderful. I quilted a different filler design for each one which was SO much fun.
Next up was the table runner. First I pieced together the left over scraps from the flowers into one long piece 5" wide. I then cut the strip with a gentle curve and pieced it together with some Kona Putty. For the front I used one solid piece of Kona Putty and quilted it completely before adding the flowers. That way the back would be completely quilted. I first quilted some free hand vines, hexagons, and swirls, and then filled the leftover space with pebble quilting. I used Aurifil 40wt (2312) for the top and bobbin, and let me tell you I fall even more in love with Aurifil every time I use it. It blends so beautifully, and adds wonderful texture.
To finish it I made some super scrappy rainbow binding using Jaybird Quilts method. This took sometime, but was totally worth it! There is a different scrap every 2"!
I also included one of my Felt Needle Book's. The applique on the front was hand-stitched and the book itself wash machine stitched. As I said, this project was SOO much fun! Partner I had a blast making your gift and I hope you love it!
