Last year I had the pleasure of meeting Cristy Fincher of Purple Daisies at one of the PHXMQG meetings. Since then Cristy has taught me so much about quilting and I am so thankful for her willingness to share her techniques and love for quilting with other's like myself. Cristy has recently joined Pile O' Fabric as a sponsor and today I asked Cristy to share a little about herself and her wonderful shop…
I started Purple Daisies, in 2005, when my mom's (Sharon Schamber) designs and techniques became more popular, and they needed a place to be available for all quilters, online. It was also the way I was going to be able to stay home with my kids, work, and support my family. Also, it helped keep my mom in a creative place, while I could help promote the retail side. In addition, I began teaching at local quilt shops, and as a traveling teacher for the Arizona Quilter's Guild. About a year after I started my online business, I started vending at quilt shows. I love visiting with quilters at the shows!
Purple Daisies is a unique place where new and seasoned quilters can find techniques for each part of the quilt making process. My focus has always been to help everyone sew/piece/quilt smarter, easier, and more efficiently. Because everything Sharon produces and designs is technique based, making her techniques applicable to any pattern, or quilting process.
I offer many tools and supplies to support Sharon's techniques. You will find those notions that we believe to work the best for Sharon's techniques, as well as make it all easier for you. You won't find hundreds of different notions, just those that we recommend.
Website perks: Orders $99+ always receive free shipping, international shipping available, special discounts on Facebook and Twitter, free videos, and lots of inspiration!
I myself have adapted many of Cristy and Sharon's techniques into my quilting, and they have truly made quilting more fun. Here are some of their products I use for many of my projects!
This applique foundation does wonders! I use this foundation for English Paper Piecing, and Applique. In fact we will be using it in April for the Skill Builder BOM (Purple Daisies will be selling BOM kits in a few days). It is a stay in product that actually turns into regular fibers when washed.
You all have heard me mention this before, but I use the Quilt Halo in free motion quilting to help me achieve more accurate quilting, and less strain on my shoulders.
This FMQ Stipple foot is made for High Shank sewing machines like my Juki TL-2010Q or high shank Brother's. It is a fantastic solid foot (no hopping spring motion).
These plastic tips can be attached to a bottle of Elmer's washable glue to allow only a little glue in a small stream to come out at a time. I use Elmer's washable glue and glue stick for MANY things while quilting. You will see this as the Skill Builder BOM continues.
Another item I have mentioned before is the Supreme Slider. This fantastic little tool sticks to your machine to help elevate static and drag when free motion quilting.
