  • Purpose of Skill Building

In my quilting journey I have learned a lot of amazing things in a short period of time. It all started in Pottery Barn Kids, I saw a beautiful quilt and said to myself I could make that! At the time I had experience with sewing clothing and accessories, but had never made a quilt and I hadn't sewn in years. My First Quilt I approached the making of my first quilt without any fear or apprehension, no thoughts of fear even cross my mind. I wanted to make a quilt so I made one. I wasn't worried about whether my points...

  • Skill Builder BOM 2015

When I started the Skill Builder Block of the Month in 2013, I had a strong desire to learn new things and build up my skill level in sewing. Little did I know that the Skill Builder BOM would help me and others to grow by leaps and bounds. This block of the month allows me to continue learning not only about sewing, but about being a teacher, instructional writer, photographer, video maker, and more. I...

  • Layered Applique // Skill Builder BOM

This month for Skill Builder BOM we are making the Scissor and Rotary Cutter Blocks. These blocks are made with a technique called Layered Applique or sometimes called Applique by Number. This technique looks difficult, but it's actually really quite easy. For this technique you use freezer paper templates and Liquid Stitch glue. I have some really fun designs in mind using this technique, which I will probably put together as technique kits in my shop for those of you interested in trying the technique. You could also join the Skill Builder Block of the Month at anytime!   Alyssa

  • Finished Quilt // Skill Builder BOM

Well folks today is the last day of the 2013 Skill Builder BOM. I must say it is a little sad, but of course there is next year, which I am very excited about. The 2013 Skill Builder BOM was the first time I spent an entire year working on a quilt. I found it so rewarding. It’s fascinating how much of a roller coaster the process of making a quilt can be, especially when you are working on one for such a long time. Throughout the year, I had moments where I was discouraged with my skill and wrought...

If you are running a little behind on your...
